on our railways
Community Pastors work alongside regional rail networks such as Greater Anglia and C2C, together with British Transport Police, with the intention of being a caring presence on our station platforms and on board trains.
Community Pastors serving on railways will have received specialised training with the aim of helping reduce the number of suicides at stations. The training also equips them to come alongside those previously touched by suicide in their family, friendship group or workplace.

A team consists of volunteers from a wide variety of churches. They certainly have a busy timetable with teams operating on different parts of the Essex network.
Community Pastor patrols are reporting significant conversations with the public. Our friendly sky blue uniforms make our teams very approachable, providing a useful platform for ‘deep and meaningfuls’. They could be comforting those facing physical pain, grief, relationship or work issues. Or maybe just helping someone find their way or assisting a passenger struggling with their luggage.
We bring a uniquely Christian ethos to our work on the county’s network, recognising that some of those travelling will also be on a spiritual journey.
And it’s not just passengers who are assisted. Rail staff and law enforcement officers have issues too, some dealing with very traumatic experiences, and we’re there to provide a listening ear and cheer them on.

The skills we have acquired on rail patrols are now being applied to an exciting new area; our county’s airports. It’s all in a day’s work for a Community Pastor.
